In a matchup between two teams receiving votes in the IHSBCA Class 4A poll, the New Palestine baseball team dropped a 4-2 decision to Fishers after the Tigers posted a seventh-inning rally. The Dragons led 2-1 going into the final frame, but the Tigers took advantage of two walks and two RBI hits, with the big blow being a one-out, two-run double to give Fishers a 4-2 lead. The Dragons got the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the frame after a Gavin Neal single, but were unable to equalize. Jacob Morris pitched a strong game for the Dragons, taking the loss despite allowing three hits, three runs and striking out three in 6 1/3 innings. Each team had four hits in the contest. Fishers stranded runners in each of the first two innings, but broke through in the third after a leadoff single, walk and hit batter loaded the bases. A fielder's choice groundout plated the game's first run. The game remained 1-0 going into the fifth. Rigg Mahurin's one-out single was the Dragons' first baserunner. After a walk to Wyatt Mathies moved him to scoring position, Neal drilled a single to center to tie the game at 1-1. The Dragons took a 2-1 lead in the sixth, as Adam Rickey walked, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on Morris' sharp single to left. The Dragons are now 15-3 on the season. They next play Saturday, with the 10 a.m. first pitch against Connersville also marking senior day festivities.
