The New Palestine girls basketball team put on one of its best defensive performances in history Wednesday, rolling to a 60-11 victory over host Greenwood. The Dragons jumped out to a 25-2 lead after a quarter and forced a running clock by halftime. Gabbie Brown led a balanced attack, with six first-quarter points. Haven Flagle and Sawyor Murdick each scored five and Ally White four to get the Dragons started. Sadey Hughbanks and Flagle each scored five points as the Dragons outscored the Woodmen 19-2 in the second quarter to take a 44-4 halftime lead. The Dragons led 49-11 going into the fourth, and outscored Greenwood 11-0 in the final frame. Brooklyn Crim scored five points in the fourth. Flagle led the Dragons with 12 points, outscoring the entire Greenwood team. Murdick and Hughbanks each added nine. Brown and Crim scored eight points each. Kenna Tweedy tallied five points. White scored four, Kendra Moore three and Brylie Kirstein two. The 11 points allowed were the third-fewest given up in school history, and the fewest allowed by a Dragons team since a 75-6 victory over Shortridge Dec. 29, 2015. It was the first time holding a team below 20 points since a 68-17 win over Connersville Nov. 7, 2019. The Dragons are now 3-0 on the season. They next play Saturday at Indian Creek.
