Girls wrestling second at Purdue Poly

The New Palestine girls wrestling team finished second at Saturday's 25-team Purdue Poly Invitational. The Dragons' 194 points were second to Franklin's 219. The Dragons had two second-place finishers. Erica Whetsel went 3-1 and finished second at 155. Miranda LaRoche went 2-1 and was second at 190. In addition, June Wagner-Gilbert went 5-1 and was the consolation bracket champ at 135. Lilly Nichols was third at 235 (4-1). Finishing fourth were Callee Rains (130) and Bellamy Reardon (140), both going 4-2 on the day. Placing fifth were Kalissa Jacobs (120) and Elizabeth Champ (155), both going 3-2. Reagan Fortier was sixth, placing 3-3. Three other wrestlers did not place, but won matches. Calie Means was 1-2 at 125, Layla Durham 1-2 at 170 and Carmie Kelle was also 2-2 on the day. The Dragons are next in action Wednesday with a home dual meet against North Central.
