Boys swim wins East Central relays; girls fourth

The New Palestine boys swimming and diving team won Tuesday's East Central Relays title, while the Dragons girls finished fourth. The Dragons boys won five individual relays to claim the five-team event with 90 points, with East Central finishing second with 66. Warren Central (56), Cincinnati Elder (42) and Columbus North (32) rounded out the scoring. The Dragons girls tallied 56 points, finishing behind East Central (80), Cincinnati Seton Catholic (78) and Columbus North (56). Warren Central was fifth with 10. THe meet was originally scheduled for Dec. 13, but postponed due to severe winter weather that day. Winners for the Dragons boys were the 1,000 free relay of Noah Merchant and Sam Dobbins (11:40.36); the 200 free relay of Luke Bartusek, Aaron Lake, Max Watson and Jalen Thompson (1:40.74); the 150 backstroke relay of Dobbins, Jake Myers and Reese Cox (1:23.91); the 150 breaststroke relay of Parker Hurst, Tyler Schmidt and Blake Hurst (1:36.92); and the 400 free relay of Watson, Merchant, Parker Hurst and Thompson (3:51.30). Finishing second for the Dragons boys were the 200 medley relay of Merchant, Schmidt, Sam Dobbins and Thompson; the 100 free relay of Bartusek, Kaden Curren, Garrett Elkins and Aaron Lake; the 400 medley relay of Cox, Blake Hurst and Myers; the 375 free relay of Ben Edwards, Hudson Hughes, Elkins and Watson; the 150 butterfly relay of Cox, Parker Hurst and Myers; Winning for the Dragons girls was the 100 free relay of Isabelle Tull, Cadyn Brown, Arianna Tull and Ireland Armstrong (54.08) and Isabelle Tull in diving (69.45). Finishing second for the Dragons girls was the 150 backstroke relay of Gwen Melby, Arianna Tull and Armstrong and the 150 breaststroke relay of Piper Schaefer, Melby and Lillie Abernathy (1:47.15). The Dragons are back in the pool Saturday morning to face Franklin Central in a dual meet.
