June Wagner-Gilbert won a regional championship Saturday at the IHSAA girls wrestling Muncie Central regional, and teammate Reagan Fortier also punched her ticket to next week's State Finals. Wagner-Gilbert won the title at 135 pounds, winning by fall in three of her four matches. She needed just 37 seconds to pin Centerville's Izabelle Butler in the opening round, then won a 15-0 tech fall over Perry Meridian's Caitlyn Moore in the "ticket round." Wagner-Gilbert then pinned Marion's Grace Carpenter in 1:00 in the semis, and won the championship with a 5:48 pin of Franklin Central's Dayonna Dyson. Fortier finished fourth at 170. She won her first two matches by fall - in 4:41 over Greenwood's Sophia Rygiel and in 1:01 over Marion's Mikayla Bailey. She then lost a 10-4 decision to Cathedral's Aanas Gladney in the semis and lost by fall to Beech Grove's Joslin Stinson in the finals. Fortier will carry a 23-12 record into the State Finals. The Dragons had six other wrestlers compete in the regional. Three advanced to the "ticket round" but lost - Calie Means (120), Bellamy Reardon (140) and Miranda LaRoche (190). Kalissa Jacobs (125), Carmie Kelle (145) and Elizabeth Champ (155) dropped their first-round matches. The State Finals will be Jan. 16 at the Corteva Coliseum in Indianapolis.
