Boys wrestling finishes seventh at team state

The New Palestine boys wrestling team finished seventh at Saturday's IHSWCA Team State Duals at Franklin, going 2-2 on the day in four matches. The Dragons opened the day with a 48-17 victory over Plainfield. Winning by fall were William Glesing, Landon Stranger and Gabe Flick. Sebastian Stilts, Colin Whetsel and Carson Clements all won by major decision. Wes Harbert, Braeden Lintner, Emmit Abernathy and Isaiah Jones also won for the Dragons. Gunner Butt won by forfeit. The Dragons then dropped a tight 32-29 match to second-seeded Columbus East in the quarterfinals. Butt won by fall. Harbert and King Tavorn both won by tech fall. Stilts won a major decision. Glesing, Blake Doss and Whetsel all won by decision. In the consolation semifinal, the Dragons fell 40-31 to Floyd Central, again winning seven of the 14 matches. Whetsel and Glesing both won by fall. Doss and Flick won by tech fall. Harbert, Abernathy and Butt all won decisions. In the seventh-place match, the Dragons beat Munster 44-31. Lintner, Butt, Flick, Glesing, Stilts and Doss all won by fall. Whetsel won a tech fall. Clements won by decision. The match featured the Dragons' two fastest falls on the day - Flick won in 20 seconds and Glesing in 27 seconds. The Dragons trailed 31-21 going into Whetsel's match at 215, but he, Glesing, Stilts and Doss rolled up four consecutive wins to clinch the match. The Dragons are now 11-4 on the season after going 2-2 on the day. They next compete Wednesday at home against Lawrence North.
