Swimmers sweep Shelbyville

The New Palestine swimming and diving teams both had dominant nights in the pool Thursday, sweeping a meet at Shelbyville. The Dragons boys won 129-44, while the girls won 103-75. Winners for the Dragons boys were Sam Dobbins in the 200 IM (2:20.74) and 100 backstroke, Reese Cox in the 50 free (24.60), Hudson Hughes in diving (144.25), Jake Myers in the 500 free (5:47.39), Luke Bartusek in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.84), the 200 medley relay team of Dobbins, Blake Hurst, Cox and Myers (1:47.82), the 200 free relay of Jalen Thompson, Garrett Elkins, Max Watson and Aaron Lake (1:41.23), and the 400 free relay of Cox, Dobbins, Watson and Thompson (3:50.19). Individuals finishing second were Thompson in the 200 free and 100 breaststroke, Noah Merchant in the 200 IM and 100 butterfly, Tyler Schmidt in the 50 free, Lake in the 100 free, Cox in the 500 free, Hurst in the 100 backstroke, Winners for the Dragons girls were Ireland Armstrong in the 200 free (2:14.41) and 100 butterfly (1:10.73), Isabelle Tull in diving (229.80) and the 400 free relay of Lillie Abernathy, Piper Schaefer, Isabelle Singer and Armstrong (4:22.12). Individuals finishing second were Abernathy in the 200 free, Ellie Ragsdale in the 200 IM, Schaefer in the 100 butterfly, Madi Bard in the 500 free and Abigail Singer in the 100 backstroke. The Dragons boys are now 5-4 on the season, while the girls are 6-5. Both teams are next in action Jan. 22 at home against Connersville.
