Baseball falls at Yorktown

The New Palestine baseball team had eight hits Tuesday, but was unable to come up with enough timely ones as the Dragons fell 4-2 at Yorktown. NP fell to 3-3 (0-2 HHC). The two teams will play again Wednesday at NPHS. Kingston Hedges homered and scored both Dragons runs. His first-inning blast gave the Dragons an early lead. But Yorktown answered in the bottom of the first by loading the bases on a single, hit batter and walk. A wild pitch and a groundout brought in two runs to give the Tigers the lead. In the top of the third, the Dragons knotted the game back up, as Hedges hit a two-out single and moved to second on an error. Jacob Morris made the Tigers pay by grounding a game-tying single up the middle. The Dragons were unable to take advantage of a leadoff single in the fourth. Yorktown then quickly re-took the lead in the bottom of the frame with a leadoff homer. Two more singles brought home another run to put the Tigers up 4-2. The Dragons had baserunners in each of the last three innings, but none were able to advance into scoring position. Gavin Neal was 3-for-4 for the Dragons from the leadoff spot. Hedges was 2-for-4 with a solo homer and two runs. Morris was 2-for-3 with a run. Marshall Giant had the Dragons' other hit.
