Bauer advances to state in 1600, 3200

Mike Bauer clinched State Finals spots in both the 1600 and 3200 meter runs Thursday, leading the New Palestine boys track and field team at the Greenfield-Central regional. Bauer finished third in the 1600 in 4:21.85. He was also third in the 3200 (9:27.34). The top three runners in each event advance to the State Finals, which will be Saturday, June 6 at North Central High School in Indianapolis. Also scoring for the Dragons were Will Bardonner, who was seventh in the 300 hurdles (41.67) and Paxton Holmes, who was eighth in the 100 hurdles (15.13). The 4x800 relay of Carson Cooper, Nick Holland, J.T. Koch and Zion Koch also finished eighth in 8:33.04 and scored. Also competing in the regional were Carson Cooper in the 1600 (14th, 4:40.04), Zane Smith in the long jump (14th 19-4.75), the 4x100 relay of Holmes, Bardonner, Tyler Graves and Bryce Neuner (9th, 43.16) and the 4x400 relay of Holmes, Joe Bauer, Neuner and Bardonner (12th, 3:31.16). As a team, the Dragons placed 14th out of 30 schools with 16 points. Lawrence North (82), Franklin Central (74) and Greenfield-Central (67.5) took the top three spots.
