The New Palestine boys soccer team had a late push Tuesday, but fell to Greenwood 2-1 at Kelso Stadium. The Dragons conceded a goal midway through the first half on a run up the left side, as Greenwood won a contested ball with contact and had the Dragons on their heels, eventually getting open at the left side of the net in the box. The Woodmen scored in the 42nd minute on a long ball in that led to a 1v1 with the goalkeeper. The Dragons outshot Greenwood 12-9 in the game. Hudson Hughes hit the crossbar with a shot in the first half, and a free kick by Hector Medrano from the top of the box went inches wide. In the second half, Jacob Walker and Noah Diaz De Leon both had chances that forced Greenwood saves. In the 78th minute, the Dragons broke through when Diaz De Leon dribbled along the 18 and rocketed a shot into the top corner to cut the deficit to 2-1. The Dragons are now 1-8 on the season. They next play Thursday at Batesville. The Dragons JV dropped a 1-0 decision.
