Softball suffers first loss

The No. 3 New Palestine softball team suffered its first loss of the season Wednesday, dropping a 5-1 decision on the road to No. 6 Roncalli. The Dragons drew three walks, but Katie Hirschy provided the offense with a solo homer in the second. The Dragons stranded two runners in the third after a pair of walks. Roncalli took the lead with four runs on four hits in the bottom of the first. Cailyn Hurst came on in relief in the third and held the Royals to one run - a sixth-inning homer. She allowed two hits in four innings of relief. The Dragons were outhit 8-1 in the contest. NP is now 10-1 on the season. The Dragons next play Thursday at Greenfield-Central.
