Blachly, Mitchell win county titles

Bethany Blachly and Kaitlyn Mitchell won individual titles Monday, leading the New Palestine girls tennis team to a second-place finish in the Hancock County meet at Mt. Vernon. Host Mt. Vernon won with 27 points, winning three of the five flights and finishing second in the other two. The Dragons were second, with two first-place and two second-place finishes. Greenfield-Central (7) was third and Eastern Hancock (6) was fourth. At No. 2 singles, Blachly won her first match 6-2, 6-2 against Eastern Hancock, then won 6-2, 6-3 in the championship match over Mt. Vernon. At No. 3 singles, Mitchell won 6-1, 6-0 in the first round against Greenfield-Central, and 6-2, 6-3 over MV in the second round. Maizy Haynes/Riley Watts won 6-0, 6-0 over EH in the first round, then fell 6-2, 6-1 in the title match to MV at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, Alyssa Beller/Addison Ballard beat G-C's duo 6-3, 6-4 in the first round, then fell 6-2, 6-1 to MV in the title match. The Dragons are back in action Tuesday at Greenfield-Central.
