Holden Hughes pitched a three-hit shutout and Jacob Morris provided all the offense he would need early with a three-run homer Thursday, leading the New Palestine baseball team to a 9-0 victory at Greenfield-Central. Hughes (3-0), making his second straight conference start, pitched a complete game, allowing three hits, three walks and striking out seven. He had all the offense he needed before throwing a pitch, as the Dragons took a 3-0 lead three batters into the game. Back-to-back walks to Rigg Mahurin and Gavin Neal set the stage for Morris, who laced a three-run homer to left. Coupled with his sixth-inning homer in Wednesday's 7-1 victory over G-C, Morris delivered blasts in back-to-back plate appearances. Morris drove in his fourth run of the game in the second. NP loaded the bases on singles by Rylan Edwards and Mahurin and a walk to Neal. Morris drove in a run with a groundout. With Hughes cruising on the mound, the Dragons extended the lead in the fifth. Morris led off with a single and moved to third on Jackson Kamp's double to right. Kingston Hedges drove in a run with a groundout. Ethan Nunnally followed with an RBI single to extend the lead to 6-0. In the seventh, the Dragons added two more runs, as Trase Quillen led off with a walk and was along for the ride on Mahurin's two-run homer to center. NP added another run, as Neal singled and scored on a double by pinch-hitter Jesse Isaacs. The Dragons had 10 hits in the game. Morris was 2-for-4 with two runs and four RBI. Mahurin was 2-for-3 with a homer, two runs and two RBI. Nunnally was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Neal was 1-for-2 with three walks and two runs. Isaacs was 1-for-1 with a double and an RBI. Kamp was 1-for-4 with a double and a run. Edwards was 1-for-3 with a run. The Class 3A No. 5 Dragons are now 12-2 and 6-2 in Hoosier Heritage Conference play after their eighth consecutive win. They have posted back-to-back conference sweeps of rivals Mt. Vernon and Greenfield-Central. The Dragons are next in action Friday at East Central.
