Golf clinches spot in regional

The New Palestine boys golf team shot 341 Monday to finish third in the sectional at Hawk's Tail and clinch a spot in the regional. The top three teams advance to the regional. The Dragons advanced by two strokes over fourth-place Shenandoah. Joey McPike led the Dragons with an 83, including a 38 on the front nine. Alex Cofer shot 85, including an even-par 36 on the back nine. Landon Beaty added an 86. Luke Cofer shot 87. Nick Barada's 89 was the Dragons' fifth score. Greenfield-Central won the title with a 319. Mt. Vernon was second with 324. The Dragons finished ahead of Shenandoah (343), New Castle (351) and six other teams. The Dragons will compete in the regional Thursday at The Players Club in Yorktown.
