New Palestine High School

The New Palestine cross country teams both won Saturday's Dragon Invitational at the New Palestine cross country course. The Dragons boys won with 38 places in the six-team meet, beating Lapel (69), Shelbyville (76), Beech Grove (98), Martinsville (116) and Greenwood Christian (126). The Dragon shad four runners in the top five. Mike Bauer was third (16:36.64), Carson Cooper fifth (17:17.13), Gabe Silvey ninth (18:07.66) and J.T. Koch 10th (18:25.08). Micah Jones finished 11th (18:47.55). The Dragons girls won the five-team meet with 36 places, beating Beech Grove (67), Shelbyville (69), Lapel (84) and Martinsville (106). The Dragons had four runners in the Top 10. Elena Daugherty led the Dragons with a second-place finish (20:00.66). Adi Smith was sixth (21:01.67), Abby Journay seventh (21:02.13) and Brynn Richey 10th (22:08.31). Taylor Burke was 11th (22:09.45). The Dragons next compete in the Oct. 18 sectional at Mt. Vernon.
