Pardieck wins sectional title, cross country teams advance

Hailey Pardieck won the individual sectional title, leading the New Palestine girls cross country team to a runner-up finish in Saturday's Mt. Vernon sectional. The Dragons boys finished fifth. Both teams will advance to next Saturday's regional at Blue River Park in Shelbyville. Pardieck ran the 5K course at Mt. Vernon in 18:58.01, winning by 2.25 seconds over Franklin Central's Makenna Bowling. She led the Dragons to a second-place finish, as NP had four runners in the top 15. NP had 60 places, finishing second to Franklin Central (31). Greenfield-Central (75), Cathedral (82) and Mt. Vernon (113) will also advance to the regional. In addition to Pardieck's individual title, Elena Daugherty finished seventh (19:48.25), Adi Smith 12th (20:15.84), Abby Journay 15th (20:30.28) and Brynn Richey 25th (21:06.40). The Dragons boys were fifth out of 11 schools, posting 124 places, and advancing by a large margin over sixth-place Warren Central (192). Lawrence North (31), Franklin Central (45), Greenfield-Central (83) and Mt. Vernon (90) will also advance to the regional. Mike Bauer finished fifth in 16:17.94 to lead the Dragons. Carson Cooper was 15th (17:05.28), Zion Koch 33rd (18:18.12), Micah Jones 34th (18:20.83) and Cody Lowe 40th (18:29.19).
