Volleyball drops close match in sectional final

The New Palestine girls volleyball team battled through several tight sets Saturday night against No. 1 Roncalli, but the seventh-ranked Dragons fell 25-22, 22-25, 25-15, 26-24 in the sectional championship match. The Dragons finished their season with a 28-5 record. The Dragons led for much of the first set, but Roncalli took the lead late and held on to win. The Dragons led wire-to-wire in the second set, before trailing from start to finish in the third. In the fourth. the Dragons battled back to force a 24-all tie, before Roncalli finished with two points to clinch. Natalie Sevier tallied a double-double with 22 digs, 12 kills and two aces. Adelynn Crispin also had a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs. Hayden Ramsey finished the match with 13 kills, two blocks and two aces. Caylee Brown had 11 kills. Sam Gooding tallied 41 assists and seven digs in the match. Azure Flagle had 21 digs and two aces. Kennedy Armstrong added nine digs. "I’m very proud of my team. We were right there and nearly forced a fifth set," Dragons coach Kelli Gabehart said. "Heartbreaking to end your season like that. Our senior class has been outstanding. They are amazing players, leaders, and teammates. Azure holds the school record in digs, Sam holds the record for assists, and Hayden for blocks. They play with so much joy and they love this program with their whole heart. So thankful to coach these awesome young ladies."
